Writing
We are learning how to write a good four paragraph expository essay. An expository essay is a factual/informational essay. We have written our first one together on ways to stay healthy and on J.K. Rowling.

Spelling
Lesson 19 is next! We skipped around this week.
Class Spelling Bee will be on Friday, 1/25.
We will also watch Akeelah and the Bee movie on Friday. Fun! Make sure your permission slips are in by Friday, 1/25.

Social Studies
**Blue customs sheet is due on Monday, 1/28. Make your own family tree on a blank piece of paper or on the computer and send it in with the packet. Go back two generations.

SIX FLAGS- 600 Minute Reading-
Does your child want a Free ticket to Great America?
Are they reading and recording their 600 minutes of reading?
They are due on Feb. 22nd!!

Spakausky's Math Update-
We will be doing problem solving every Thursday, so look at the examples of the problem solving and t-charts, so you can help your child at home.

Unit 7 on Data and Probability is next. We will come back to chapter 4 on measurement later.

Unit 6 test on pronouns will be on Thursday, 1/24!

Spelling
Lesson 16 is next! Pre-test is on Tuesday.

Class Spelling Bee will be on Friday, 1/8 and Friday, 1/25.

Chapter 3 -
-Lesson 1 is about people moving to different communities for opportunities.
-Lesson 2 is about people learning new customs.
-Lesson 3 is about where people move from.
- Lesson 4 is about people beginning a new life in the United States.

The chapter 3 test will most likely be on Wednesday, 1/23!
Study the quizzes, worksheets and study guide. Reread the chapter.

Happy New Year!
Welcome 2008

REMINDER from the office:
FORGOTTEN LUNCHES: Starting in January, 2008 students who do not have a lunch ticket or money will be able to borrow from the office providing there is not an outstanding balance due for lunch tickets.
If your child forgets his/her hot lunch ticket or has used them all, he/she may bring $2.25 to school and purchase a ticket that day from the office staff.
Students must have exact change to purchase a ticket; no change will be given. If a child has no lunch, no money and the parent cannot be contacted, he/she may borrow from school office, but only twice per trimester.
Students will no longer be able to borrow lunch tickets from the lunchroom staff.

Unit 6 – This unit is on pronouns. Ask your child what a pronoun is. Have them give you a sentence using a pronoun.

Spelling

Chapter 3 is next. There are 4 lessons in this chapter.
-Lesson 1 is about people moving to different communities for opportunities.
-Lesson 2 is about people learning new customs.
-Lesson 3 is about where people move from.
- Lesson 4 is about people beginning a new life in the United States.
After each lesson, we will do a workbook page, have discussions, do an activity, hear the lesson on CD, reread the lesson for homework and then take a quiz on the lesson.
